Arnold Palmer Original Putter
When was the Arnold Palmer “The” Original Putter made?
I just picked one up on ebay that was still in the original plastic. There are no ‘callaway’ markings on the club, so it was before they started making it. based on different stories I’vee read on the different forums, i’m guessing it’s between 20 and 30 years old, but I can’t find anything on when “the” original started being made and when Callaway took over.
You can’t find anything from Callaway with respect to that club because that putter was from Palmer’s company Pro Group, which existed up to the early 1990’s and was based in Chattanooga, TN. Another distinguished club to come from that company back then was the Palmer Peerless wooden headed driver that had a bright red cherry finish (P60 and P61 models). That company assembled and sold The Axiom irons too, in stainless steel and beryllium copper, among many other models. At one time or another, Arnold used all of these on the Champions Tour in the ’80’s to win ten events including five senior majors.
